Out and About

By now we have settled back in to a regular working life, so the weekends are our only source to satisfy travelling cravings. Luckily, there is lots around and we just have to decide what to do.

THE CHIEF

A towering rock formation over the small town of Squamish, an hour north of Vancouver. Shannon Falls are at the start of our hike.
It was nice to see some water falling again instead of being frozen.
Some greenery. Again a welcome change from white.
A pine/fir/spruce/hemlock forest. A haven't worked them all out yet.

And after the final struggly, you arrive at the top.
And a picture of Canada's logging industry, which is in huge troubles.
VANCOUVER ISLAND

Next stop was Vancouver Island. A large island of the west coast. A bit of a rush in a weekend but still doable. The ferries are big at a capacity of around 500 cars.

Someone's perfect location on one of the smaller gulf islands.
And our campsite. Again, notice the lack of white stuff. Very exciting for us.
Our early morning walk to the beach near our campsite proved a little too early in the day for Canada.
Luckily the weather improved soon afterwards once we had moved onto Port Renfrew.

As close as I have got to diving over here so far. Peering into rockpools.
The waves might not have been very big. But it was great to be near the sights and smells of the ocean again.

A viewpoint over the smaller islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland.
A cool little fishing village.

And the traffic. Problem with big ferries is, lots of people want to catch them. The standard 4hr wait on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, wait in line for 4 hrs. Then the 2hr ride. Then drive home, at 1am. Luckily travel has taught us patience and Felix still has his bed.

JAZZ FEST

And for the last two weekends there has been a jazz festival on in Vancouver. Sit around in the sun and watch free jazz. OK.
A good mix of local bands, latino bands and a few imports from the States or Quebec.
Yes, the sun shone in Vancouver. Summer finally arrived at like 29 degrees. Bliss.
Which means.........ICE CREAM!!!!!!!
